The topic on Chemistry World was “False data”. So I thought, how can I make it funny without a song?

Isn’t falsification attempting to prove something wrong, like you do when testing hypotheses? Surely you mean fudged..?

You are not wrong however neither is the author. the way it used in the comic is more common vernacular. You aren’t wrong to say that if a hypothesis is tested and disproven that it has been “falsified”.
